The first whippet male in our family namely Chandhara's Xan-Tico (born 5.4.1996) passed away yesterday the 15th December. It seems that Tico had had some kind of stroke during the work day. Antti found him lying on the floor. Tico couldn't stand up and he had defecated under him. Antti could get him to sit but our boy could not get on to his feet. If was time to do the final service to our whippet boy and put him in the eternal sleep.
Tico was a fantastic dog at home, so gentle and easy. With both our males and females. He was a fantastic racer too, a legend here in Finland with all his wins and track records. At his older age he still enjoyed life and some walking with his pack. We have so good memories of him, our black beauty.
We want to thank John & Suzanne Hooftman from kennel Chandhara's from the Netherlands for this amazing whippet boy. Thank you.

Minna will travel tomorrow to Germany, Gelsenkirchen to watch the European championship in racing. There will be two MaXwin dogs in the championship: Dobri & El Diablo. Unfortunatelly our top dog Delaware is in season so she is not able to take part in the competition.
See you there!

Kennel MaXwin has taken all the Finnish championship titles in the competitions it has taken part in this summer. For the first time we had separated classes for bitches and males at the championships in Finland. MaXwin Delaware (female) took her third and MaXwin Baxter (a veteran male) took his second Finnish championship in racing. Kennel MaXwin is a ten year old kennel and since 2003 we have lost only one Finnish championship title. That is an awesome achievement! :)
Unfortunately Delaware came in season after the championship games and can not take part in the European championship in Germany. She is the top whippet in Finland at the moment and has been for some years. MaXwin Dobri and El Diablo will be in Gelsenkirchen with their owners as well as Minna Ruotsalo from the kennel MaXwin.
Kennel MaXwin is specialised in racing and we breeders do never coursing with our whippets. Some top dogs in Finland do both racing and coursing, a few MaXwins also. This year MaXwin Fabio (male) won the first Finnish championship in coursing ever for kennel MaXwin. It was his second coursing competition. His brother MaXwin Fico (male) came second and it was his third coursing competition.
Kennel MaXwin congratulates the dogs and their owners for the victories and Finnish championship titles. Wow!

His father is Barnabe Chadra Sans Dos, owned by Christian Cuadrado, and his mother is Apalache River du Tepee d'Amour, owned by the breeders. Elko lives in the Sommardahl family and has MaXwin Deemax as his "big brother". More of Elko later on our site.
Kennel MaXwin wants to thank for Chantal & Christian Siino and Christian Cuadrado for this lovely boy! Merci à Chantal & Christian Siino et Christian Cuadrado que nous avons eu Elko ici en Finlande. You can find the first photos of Elko in Finland in MaXwin PhotoGallery.

We had the Championship of the Finnish Whippet Club on the 6th July. All the best whippets were there. Kennel MaXwin had a fantastic day, one can say.
MaXwin Delaware was the fastest bitch and took the victory. MaXwin boys did not just take a victory but all the three best places!! MaXwin Fibi was the winner, veteran MaXwin Baxter came second and MaXwin El Diablo third. Oh boy, it was a fantastic day! The dogs ran extremely well and kennel MaXwin wants to thank all the owners for their contribution :) Not to mention about the dogs! :) What great achievements.
The father of MaXwin F litter, namely Old Road's Chayenne won the Swiss Championships 2009 with a track record. Wau, he is already a veteran! Kennel MaXwin wants to congratulate Erika & Hansuli Eggert and the Old Road's kennel for this fine achievement. Old Road's Chayenne:
- the Swiss Champion 2005, Lostallo
- the Swiss Champion 2006, Rifferswil
- the Swiss Champion 2007, Kleindöttingen
- the Swiss Champion 2008, Lotzwil
- the Swiss Champion 2009, Lotzwil

Kennel MaXwin has been racing very actively and victoriously here in Finland. We have had four championship races: the Finnish championship in 280 meter, the Nordic championship (only Finnish dogs), the Veteran championship and the Derby for whippets born in 2006. You can see the results and some photos here:
We congratulate our new title winners and all the other MaXwin whippets and their owners for the great achievements. Here you have some photos of the races and of our title winners MaXwin Delaware (track record in 280 m in Virpiniemi), Baxter, Fibi & Fantom:

the Nordic Championship (350 m)
the Veteran Championship (280 m) and the Derby (350 m)
Minna Ruotsalo of kennel MaXwin is known as a competitior and breeder in the whippet racing world. She has also been using her skills in renewing the rules of the Finnish Whippet Club and working on the copyright issues of the Whippet Archives of Karin Schellner. She has also been writing some articles of whippets and racing. In 2007 she was the team leader for Finland in the European Championship in St. Gillis-Waas (racing). She has also a confidential post in the Finnish Kennel Club.
A week ago Minna had a new important task in the Finnish racing world: now she works as a lure also :) Photos of Top Vision Capes' Morrigan (10 months old greyhound) and the lure. (© Erkki Ruusunen)

We had racing competitions near Oulu and Turku last weekend. There was the first title race of the Finnish Sighthound Club (FCI) in Virpiniemi, Haukipudas (near Oulu) on Saturday. On Sunday whippets and greyhounds raced in Metsämäki, Turku (Greyhound Racing Federation).
Virpiniemi, Haukipudas. Coming.
Metsämäki, Turku. MaXwin Fantom (Old Road's Chayenne - MaXwin Zippy) raced very well in Metsämäki, Turku on Sunday. Fantom has had some good competitions against Beschützer Big Silver this year. The boys have been winning one another on the oval. This time it was Big Silver's race, last weekend Fantom was winning. Fantom had a fantastic start and was leading on the final straight but Big Silver came first over the finish line. Fantom raced a new record for himself in 325 meter: 21.37. We congratulate Fantom and his trainer Jaska and the Stenroos family for Fantom's fantastic races on the oval!

Racing. We have had racing competitions here in Finland in a very hot weather and in rain this early summer. At the moment it is quite cold, last Sunday it was very hot. We wish to have something in between :) You can see the Finnish racing results in Sari & David's site.
There were a racing competition in Gelsenkirchen, Germany last Sunday. The European Championship will be raced there this year. This is the first year there is no World Championchip, only the European. A lot of people with their dogs were naturally interested in testing the track. We heard that some 250 dogs were entered. The track is a sand track now, it used to be in grass. We hope to be in Gelsenkirchen for the championship in September :) You can find all the results from Gelsenkirchen here.
Catkyll's Celine. We had the first puppy training at the Helsinki track last Monday. Our German import, namely Catkyll's Celine (born 21.12.2008) was also in the practise. Oh boy, she enjoyed running after the lure! Celine is a very energetic and happy whippet girl with long back. She is co-owned by the Sormunen family and MaXwin. There is no lack of action in the Sormunen family with Celine :)
Oochigea's Hanaa. Our Belgium import, namely Oochigea's Hanaa (born 2.11.2008) who is co-owned by the Jokisalo-Ventelä family and MaXwin has been practising at the Tampere track. Hanaa raced 350 meters from the starting box last Tuesday. First two gallops were a littbe bit unsteady but then he was away. Hanaa enjoyes racing on the field with his friend MaXwin Baxter. He also enjoyes carrying stocks, no wonder he is a very muscled boy. The midsummer bonfire is ready in the garden of the Jokisalo-Ventelä family :)
Mr. MaXwin. Mr. MaXwin, namely Antti Ruotsalo had his birthday in March. He was sent flowers by the whippet friends. Last Monday in the puppy training he was given even more presents. Two MaXwin T-shirts, a card and a placard. And some thirst-quencher. Mr. MaXwin wants to send his warm thanks to his fan club for remembering and for the presents.
MaXwin Delaware puppies. Two puppies of MaXwin Delaware, namely Macarenan Backgammon and Blackjack were feeling the racing atmosphere at the Helsinki track last Wednesday. They are so sweet. A sister and her brother. The photo has taken with a cell phone camera.
the Whippet Archives. The Whippet Archives of Karin Schellner is online again. This site is a fabulous database of whippet pedigrees. There are some changes and more directions for the users. Look more at TWA.

The breeding bitch of kennel MaXwin, namely Oochigea's Vanille is having her 12th birthday today. We wish our dear Vanille a happy birthday! Vanille will enjoy her birthday at home with her three daughters. She will be playing with her new toy and eating some birthday food and walking on the field.
Our mama whippet is still in very good shape. The cough she has been suffering from is away now. There is some normal shaking in the back legs of hers but that does not bother our lady. Vanille enjoys running in the woods and on the fields. She has been two times after the lure this year (we have only started at the tracks here in Finland). On Tuesday Vanille raced a short distance at the track of Helsinki. With a champion style. Vanille, the mother of 16 whippets, the grandmother of 29 whippets and the great grandmother of 9 whippets is still young in mind, happy and joyful.
Below you can see some catching up in the news: 26th May: some racing results and 20th April: Minna and Vanille visiting Oochigea's Hanaa in Tampio, Finland.
26th May 2009
The racing season 2009 has begun here in Finland. Team MaXwin has been active and we have won the first racing champion title that has been given this year. MaXwin Delaware won the Sprint Derby 2009 title. In this competition all the whippets, no matter what sex or what size race together. So Delaware showed the boys some racing! You can find the results and some photos here:
A few MaXwin whippets have been competing in coursing too. We are concentrated in racing but some of our breedings do both racing and coursing. You can find the results here: kennel Sattuman.
We congratulate the MaXwin whippets for their achivements!
There has been a break in the updating of the site due to some self inflicted internet problems. We are back in business now and will be more active from now on.

Pentti's character was tested. MaXwin Fabio alias Pentti was the first MaXwin whippet in a character test. Pentti got +150 points which is a good achievement. We congratulate Pentti & his owner Riitta for this fine result!
Vanille & Minna in Tampio, Finland. MaXwin Minna started her spring vacation in the countryside. Minna and Vanille travelled to Kankaanpää to visit MaXwin Alysa, MaXwin Baxter, Weikotin BB-King (a son of Vanille's daughter MaXwin Biancaneve) and Oochigea's Hanaa and their family. We had a great weekend!
Young Hasse had grown up. He is a very strong whippet boy with a fantastic character. He likes to tease Brie and BB-King at home and race with Baxter outside. We had some lure training too and Hasse did well. He is so cool guy.

We don't have any snow in the south of Finland anymore so it's nice to sit down and enjoy some photos taken in the snow. In the first two photos you can see our black imported bitch from Germany, namely Catkyll's Celine, Cox. Cox who is owned by Sari & Janne Sormunen and Antti Ruotsalo from kennel MaXwin enjoys her time on the field nearby where she lives.
In the second two photos you can see our blue brindle & white imported male from Belgium, namely Oochigea's Hanaa, Hasse. Hasse who is owned by Anne Jokisalo and Antti Ruotsalo from kennel MaXwin enjoys the views of the countryside. Hasse loves to run on the field.

Kennel MaXwin and Hasse wanted to congratulate this fabulous brindle father with a champion jacket (made by Anne Saastamoinen). In the other photo you can see Chiki with his son, Hasse's brother Oochigea's HugoBoss, Papouf. Papouf is allowed to borrow Chiki's jacket if he wants :) Merci à Marie-France pour les photos!

We wish all the MaXwin whippets and their owners as well as all the other readers nice Easter time. We have had a beautiful weather here in the south of Finland (+5-10 degrees). The snow is almost gone.
This is a good time to enjoy walking the dogs and some great food. And chocolate eggs. Definitely some chocolate eggs! But no mämmi (Finnish Easter dish made of ryemeal and malted) for us. The dogs won't be having chocolate eggs but eggs instead. They just love the eggs!
5th April 2009
The Grand Old Whippet of kennel MaXwin, namely Chandhara's Xan-Tico, "Tico" has birthday today. Tico is 13 years old now. We wish a happy birthday to Tico and thank kennel Chandhara's for our dear whippet boy. Tico will be spending his birthday at home with his family :) A photo of Tico taken one week ago here.
We'll be having some updates, e.g. Minna's visit in Germany, kennel Catkyll's, soon. A few weeks still to go and then a holiday!

The valid breed standard of a whippet in F.C.I. is from the 6th March 2007. The Finnish Kennel Club's translation in Finnish has been approved only on the 27th November 2008. There are (small) changes in the breed standard. The most welcomed change from a racing competitor and breeder point of vue is that the utilization of a whippet is defined as a racing dog. Wow! This is new in the breed standard and kennel MaXwin likes this change :)
We will update our site concerning Minna's visit in Germany and Catkyll's Celine as soon as possible. Minna has some article she has to write and a translation she is working on this weekend so it seems that some extra hours per day would be more than welcomed.

The first Catkyll's whippet has arrived to Finland. Kennel MaXwin imported with friends (the Sormunen family) Catkyll's Celine alias Cox from Germany, from the kennel Catkyll's. You will find photos of our German beauty in the photo gallery of MaXwin. We will write more information and put some photos of Celine and Minna's visit to Germany on our site in the near future. We will also make a video of Celine in Finland soon.
We want to thank you the Brecht family for allowing us to have Celine here in Finland. You can find more information about the kennel Catkyll's on internet: kennel Catkyll's. Minna wants to thank you Martina, Günter and the boys for the fantastic weekend she had in Germany. It was very nice to meet the Catkyll's dogs too. What a joyful visit: a lot of nice memories and lots of laughing - and some catching up the sleep too :)

You have been able to follow the Oochigea's H litter on our site for some time. We are having photos and videos of this litter here. Lately you have been able to watch the photos and videos of Oochigea's Hanaa who moved to Finland. We inform you that this energetic and lovely whippet boy has a new nick name: Hasse. That's what he will be called at home :) Hasse has adjusted extremely well in Finland and we are very happy to have him here in the far north.
We had great news this morning from Mikkeli, Finland. MaXwin Delaware, "Tellu" gave birth. Unfortunately the first puppy was dead, all the other five puppies and the mother are fine. Delaware has one male puppy and four female puppies. All of them are of different colours, one can say.
We congratulate Delaware, the new mother whippet, and kennel Macarenan! Look at more information on the site of kennel Macarenan.

Snow all over Europe. The world has turned upside down. We have only a little bit snow here in the south of Finland (you can see the ground, the grass) but people have had to get used to snow for example in Belgium and in France in the past few days. At least Oochigea's whippets in Belgium and the whippets of the Cêtre family in France have been enjoying the snow. Our whippets get always excited here in Finland when we have snow and the snow seems to have the same effect on whippets in Belgium and France too. Lots of running in the snow and tasting the snow.

The weather has been exceptionally cold in Belgium at the end of December and at the beginning of January. There has been minus degrees during the nights which is very rare at this time of the year. Usually the weather is this cold only in February. When Minna was in Belgium in October the violets were still flowering and at the same time we had a lot of snow after a blizzard here in the south of Finland. This is not the case now. Not at all. A girl from Finland felt quite home in the cold weather in Belgium few days ago, freezing you know :) You can see in the photo below that both Minna and Oochigea's Hanaa are having good winter clothes when in Belgium. Hanaa borrowed the red coat from kennel Oochigea's and he used also the golden jacket of our late Tintin (griffon bruxellois). He will be having his brand new puppy coat which have been ordered by the Toivanen family when he grows up a little bit :)

It seems that a few minus degrees feel colder in Belgium than in Finland. I wonder why, maybe because of the humidity. We are not that used to humid weather here in Finland as people are in Central Europe but we are more used to cold and dry weather. The walls of the houses are quite thick in Finland and we need to have thick, multiple windows due to the cold winter. Though I must say that e.g. last winter we didn't actually have a winter at all in the south of Finland. But that was very exceptional. We had snow only for a few weeks. It was raining and raining. This autumn it has been raining a lot too. The climate is changing. When we have a blizzard the traffic can be a mess but it's not the same as in Central Europe, I suppose. We have a lot of vehicles on the road immediately taking the snow away and we have studded tyres (nails) which are prohibited at least in some Central European countries. We need to take care when it's icy but I couldn't imagine myself driving without these tyres on the icy road!
We hope that the Oochigea's whippets enjoy our gift coats made in Finland we brought them in October :) We wonder weather Minna brought the snow to Belgium on her last visit there and there isn't any left to Finland now :D In the spring time we envy people in Central Europe when there are flowers and beautiful sunny weather there and we are having snow and cold here in Finland at the same time.
5th January 2009
Oochigea's "Big Chief" Hanaa has arrived to Finland. Hanaa flew to Finland with Minna Ruotsalo from kennel MaXwin late on Sunday evening and will be living in the family of MaXwin Aky-Lucky. Hanaa is bred by Antoinette Wiwenes from kennel Oochigea's, Belgium. Hanaa's dam is Oochigea's Ephallius (Belgium) and his sire is Old Road's Chikiboum (France, born in Belgium). You will find an interview of kennel Oochigea's on our site soon in English. At the moment you can find the interview of Chikiboum on our site in French. You will find more information of Ephallius and Chikiboum in the Whippet Archives.
We want to thank you Antoinette Wiwenes and Jos Ruysen for having Oochigea's Hanaa to Finland. We already love this lovely and brave puppy of Sally & Chiki! We want to also thank you Marie-France and Guy Cêtre, owners of Chikiboum for their kindness. Mille merci aux Antoinette, Jos, Marie-France et Guy!
We are about to make a video "Hanaa in Belgium" as soon as possible (if the video material is ok). We'll have some photos taken in Belgium too on our site. We will also update our site considering other news etc. in the near future.
